2024 MLB Season: Key dates and other details
As a longtime fan of the Baltimore Orioles there haven’t been many years in recent memory where I’ve been legitimately excited about my team’s chances for the season ahead, but that’s definitely the case for 2024. I even shelled out some money for a baseball preview magazine at the store this past week; the last time I did that I think Cal Ripken Jr. was on the cover.
The Orioles won the AL East division title in 2023, winning 100 games (101 to be exact) for the first time since 1980. And yes, they were unceremoniously bounced in three games by the eventual-champion Texas Rangers in their ALDS matchup, but with Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and eventually Jackson Holliday leading the offense, and newly-acquired ace Corbin Burnes set to anchor the pitching staff, there is legitimate reason for optimism around the Orioles for 2024.
MLB Opening Day set for March 28
And the Orioles’ 2024 campaign gets underway on Thursday, March 28, as they begin their season-opening series at home against the Los Angeles Angels. All 30 MLB teams are in action that day, with first pitch set for 1:10pm ET in New York as the Mets play host to the Milwaukee Brewers. The featured matchup on ESPN then has the defending-champ Rangers hosting the Chicago Cubs at 7:35pm ET.
There are two regular-season games on the schedule ahead of Opening Day, however, as the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres will play two games that count in the standings at Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul, South Korea on Wednesday, March 20 and Thursday, March 21. Those two teams will then return home for their Opening Day matchups on March 28, with Los Angeles getting a visit from the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego playing host to the San Francisco Giants.
The ‘Seoul Series’ is one of several sets of games taking place either internationally or at neutral-site locations in the season ahead, as the Astros and the Rockies will play in Mexico City, the Phillies and the Mets will meet in London, the Giants and the Cardinals will take the field in Birmingham, and the Yankees and the Tigers will play the Little League Classic in Williamsport.

The Division Series winners then advance to their respective league championship series, and the winners of the ALCS and the NLCS then face off in the World Series.
